Chevron Australia produces oil, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas for domestic use and liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export.
Chevron’s management of oil production activities on Barrow Island, a grade A nature reserve offshore Western Australia, is a world-class example of the company’s ability to protect and preserve biodiversity values alongside oil and gas operations. We believe that protecting people and the environment is good business and our aim is to enhance awareness of the environment and the need to manage it for future generations.
Chevron Australia is proud to coordinate FOCUS Environment, an environmental photographic and caption competition for Western Australian students in years 4 to 12.
Chevron sponsors FOCUS Environment as a way of encouraging students to be aware of the world around them and to make a commitment to caring for the environment and safeguarding it for the future.
Students can choose from one of three subject categories and submit a photo and 25 word caption that best suits the criteria of that category.
Students and their schools can share in up to $30,000 worth of prizes.

There are three subject categories in the FOCUS Environment competition: Nature’s Moods, Plant and Animal Habitats and People and the Environment.
Your entry should address the specific criteria for the photograph and caption for the subject category. These are listed below. Each student may enter a maximum of two entries per subject category with six entries in total allowed per person, over the three categories.
From dramatic floods and raging bushfires to sunny skies or trees dancing in the breeze, the elements of sun, wind, rain and fire have an impact on our environment.
Your entry in this category will capture an aspect of Western Australia’s natural environment and you will need to describe in 25 words or less how your photograph reflects the above elements interacting within the environment.
Today, we are aware of the need to protect Western Australia’s rich biodiversity by preserving native animals and plants.
Your photographic entry should capture a slice of Western Australia’s living environment and feature native plants or animals. You will need to explain in 25 words or less why preserving native species of plants or animals is important.
Western Australians are involved in minimising their impact on the natural environment in many ways such as planting waterwise gardens, recycling or planting vegetation to stop beach dune erosion.
Your photographic entry will depict an environmental activity and your caption will explain in 25 words or less how the activity promotes sustainable development.
First and second prize winners win cash for themselves and their schools - $200 for first prize winners in each category and $1,500 for their schools.
Second prize winners receive $120 each and $1,000 for their schools. Highly commended students will win $50 each.
Every prize winner and commended student will be invited to the Awards Presentation in September. Assistance with travel, accommodation arrangements and costs will be offered to first prize winners (and one accompanying adult) from regional areas. While assistance with costs cannot be extended to second prize winners or students with commended entries from regional areas, they will be made very welcome at the Awards Presentation, should they wish to attend.
